Crowne Plaza opened in Helsinki
After a major renovation to transform the existing Hesperia Hotel into the first high-quality Crowne Plaza Hotel in Finland, the new premises were inaugurated in January 2005. The renovation project lasted one year and included almost a total interior and technical renewing. Also the badly weathered marble façade was replaced with Portuguese granite.
The hotel was build at 1972 and was expanded 1985 with new hotel rooms and conference facilities. The existing inner court was covered with a glass roof and changed into a Winter Garden. This space joins together the meeting areas located in different parts of the building. The Winter Garden gives also new possibilities to arrange seminars and events.
Worth mentioning is the wide-ranging asbestos renovation phase, typical for 1970´s buildings. Crowne Plaza is now one of the largest hotels in Finland. Evata had also an active project management role in conciliating of the interior design with the entire renovation process. A gym and fitness centre will replace the old night club located in the upper basement level. This work will be done as a separate project through an exceptional building permit and executed during the year 2005.
During the process Evata was in charge of the architectural design and project management during the preliminary design phase and tender phase.
