Evata at MIPIM Asia
Evata Conference - Key to Success for Retailers in Asia Developing Markets - was held at MIPIM Asia 2006 in Hong Kong. The discussion concerned crucial factors in succeeding in the Asian retail market. Conference moderator was Mr. Francois Duchastel, the managing director of Evata International.
One of the topics was the challenges and recent trends in retail such as faster change in consumer tastes as well as aging population, strong price competition and strong urbanization. Subsequently, keys to success and new business opportunities both for retailers and property owners were discussed. The panel discussed the likely challenges for local chinese retailers and foreign retailers in the fast evolving chinese consumer markets. Parallel was drawn with the Indian market, where the retail trade is still very closed to foreign entrants but also remains very fragmented, with less than 4% of all retail volume coming from an organized retail form. At the other end of the spectrum, pre-emerging small markets such as Mongolia, and others in central asia, are faced with attaining the necessary critical mass to attract new entrants in the retail trades.
