The opening ceremonies of the Magnitogorsk Arena
Evata’s arena design team achieved another success with the opening of the new multipurpose arena in the city of Magnitogorsk, in Russia.
The opening ceremonies of the Arena-Metallurg in Magnitogorsk took place on the 12th of January. This venue is the home arena of Metallurg Magnitogorsk – last season bronze-winning ice-hockey team in Russian Super League – and is designed to enable world-class sports events as well as concerts.
The spectators at the opening ceremonies were treated to a figure skating show and fireworks. As the main event of the evening, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, main tenant of the arena, challenged Vityaz Chekhov from Moscow, with Metallurg winning 4-3.
The legendary goalkeeper Mr. Vladislav Tretjak was also present. “Because of the opening, I want to congratulate all the inhabitants of Magnitogorsk. This is a important event to Magnitka, the region of Chelyabinsk and the whole state”, says Tretjak. He also underlined the work of the junior ice-hockey school operating on arena. “Hopefully there are new Pavel Bure or Evgeni Malkin growing up in Arena-Metallurg”.
Mr. Rene Fasel, the chairman of International Ice-hockey Federation (IIHF) was also impressed by the atmosphere. Says Fasel: “I am confident that the fans of the club will create a warm atmosphere to this arena”.
According to Russian sports portal www.sport.ru, the arena can be compared to the best NHL hockey arenas – with its capability of 7500 to 9000 spectators, it is ideal to host even the largest international events, such as ice hockey World Championships. Rene Fasel added the arena as an optimal place for large-scale events.

Mr. Vladislav Tretjak, the legendary goalkeeper was also present in Arena Metallurg opening ceremonies. |
