The most modern harbor in the Baltic Sea
Vuosaari Harbour is going to be one of the leading harbors in the Baltic Sea. It will consist of a cargo harbor, a logistics area, required traffic channels (road, railway and fairway) and the Meriportti Business Park. When completed, the harbor will play significant role in serving Finnish foreign trade, since 80 percent of transports travel by sea.
The construction of Vuosaari harbour has started in 2003. It will go into operation in 2008 and will reach its full capacity in 2009. Evata has been engaging in the development of PortGate logistics center, comprising the logistics area and the Gate Centre. The construction of PortGate, managed by Sponda Oyj, is scheduled to start in spring.
One of the most modern logistics centers
The 220-hectare harbor complex will include a modern logistics area with up-to-date technology enabling rapid cargo transport. The area will consist of rows of flow-through terminals and warehouses as well as traffic zones. Cargo will be moved directly from the ships to terminals by tugmaster harbor machines. At the terminals, the cargo will be processed and loaded onto trucks or trains.
The first phase (storage and terminals, totalling 70 000 sq.m.) will be in operation by the end of November 2008.
Gate Centre serving companies in harbor area
An office and service center is being built to provide facilities for companies operating in harbor. This Gate Centre will host office space, the transportation control, the passenger terminal, facilities for customs, a services center, parking and restaurant services.
In addition of the Gatehouse building (12 600 square metres), the first phase will comprise passenger terminal and parking. The total investment of the first phase will be approximately 34 million euros. It is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2008. In the second phase, within seven years, more office space will be built.
In both the Logistics Centre and the Gate Centre project, Evata has partnered with Sponda Oyj. Services provided by Evata range from architectural design (Evata Finland Oy) to developing the commercial concept and marketing the project (Evata Development Oy) in cooperation with Sponda.
