evata@work: Facilities as a brand management tool for Kemira

Brand management plays a crucial role for the chemical group Kemira, which is globally one of the leading companies in its field. Evata@work workplace transformation process turned the facilities of the company headquarters into brand supporting asset.

“Just add Kemira” is a slogan that reflects Kemira’s brand promises of being reliable, cooperative, responsible and proactive. The solutions made in the renovation and workplace transformation of Kemira Headquarters will support those promises.

According to Kemira’s Brand Manager Riikka Friman, for Kemira customers the facilities of the company are an important touch point for the Kemira brand and for communicating the values of the company. Support for corporate values goes even further: one of the objectives of the workplace project was to increase proactivity, hence supporting the change of the corporate culture.

“When visitors are coming to our office, it is of course important how the facilities look. But that’s not all.” says Friman. She points out that Kemira’s aim is to let the corporate values show in all actions. Says Friman: “Company values Brand promises cannot be given to employees by email. Our brand will become firmly established only if we act according to our promises. And that is where the facilities play a significant role; they will enable or direct us to do our daily work according Kemira brand values to these promises.”

The solution was based on open-plan offices. The desks were arranged to enable team work. Moreover, combining floors with additional stairways made moving between departments easier.

“Moving into open-plan offices is an effective way of improving cooperativity and proactivity. Open spaces let us hear about the challenges faced by others and this forces us to be aware of more than our small niche in the company. Sharing valuable and relevant information even across departments becomes easier.” says Friman.

The facilities were designed to meet the needs of a developing and growing organisation: therefore the grouping of the desks and shifting desks is made easy. Furthermore, the setup for meeting rooms can be rapidly changed to allow the organisation of various events.

In addition to the workplace transformation, evata was in charge of architectural and interior design. The project, which started in 2004, was carried out in close cooperation with Kemira management. According to Friman, the company has been satisfied with the result. The opening of the new Kemira facilities was held in February 2007.
Evata has helped its customers to transform their facilities from an expense to a strategic tool.
